I also like Craig3’s solution of turning off write caching, though I have not tried it yer. It seems to have disappeared from WD software. I also wonder what happened to the WD utility that I used to have (on a previous PC) that would re-lock and allow removal of the drive safely. I think that’s what the WD Erase utility does. But maybe all I need to do to erase them is reformat them. After I wake it up, the ensure drives for USB becomes not active. I safely remove one and go to put to sleep mode. Multiple flash drives have been attached to tablet’s USB ports. I have installed the Windows 10 version 1803 updates on my Surface Pro 3. I have already erased this yellow drive and relocked it using the new WD Security program. No/Missing safely remove USB hardware Notification in Windupdate. You need WD Utilities to do that, I think. This is a concern because of the problem with the security holes in WD’s hardware encryption that have been widely reported and discussed in this forum.Ī partial fix (supposedly) from WD for the security issue is to use a new version of the Security (lock drive) program after first erasing the drive. What you lose with not having WD Utils is the Erase function. Uninstalling the WD Utilities worked perfectly for me with a WD Yellow 2Tb drive.
